UK-based graphene producer Versarien has announced an agreement with Fern Plastic Products Ltd to manufacture injection moulded products using graphene enhanced polyaryletherketone (PAEK) materials. The agreement with Fern Plastics follows the agreement with Scafell Organics Ltd (“Scafell”) announced on 14 December 2016.
It is intended that Versarien will utilise Fern Plastics’ manufacturing facilities and expertise to produce injection moulded products using graphene enhanced PAEK materials produced through Versarien’s collaboration with Scafell. Following the agreements with Scafell and Fern Plastics, Versarien is now able to supply both graphene enhanced PAEK materials to manufacturers and also has the capability to supply finished products.

Swedish company Stockholm Industries AB have developed a graphene-enhanced sticker Nanoskin that can enhance phone battery life by up to 20%. The sticker dissipates heat, keeping a smartphone cooler and thus extending battery life. Read more at http://nanocase.com/

A Chinese company based at the Wuxi Graphene Industry Development and Demonstration Zone Jiangsu province has created the world’s first electrostatic speaker made from graphene. Wuxi JCNO Materials has utilized graphene resin composite materials, which are able to produce medium and low bass that conventional metal resin compounds cannot reach. The graphene speaker is also simpler, longer-lasting and cheaper to produce than traditional technology.

Norway-based pure PE-CVD graphene produce CealTech has announced that it will begin graphene production in March 2017. The company will offer pre-booking and sales in late January on its web site.

The University of Manchester has collaborated with watchmaking brand Richard Mille and McLaren F1 to create world’s lightest mechanical chronograph using graphene.
The RM 50-03 watch was made using a composite incorporating graphene to manufacture a strong but lightweight new case to house the delicate watch mechanism. The graphene composite known as Graph TPT™ weighs less than previous similar materials used in watchmaking.
The strap of the new watch has also been improved by the addition of graphene material. The rubber of the strap was also injected with graphene which has shown to improve its mechanical properties and its resistance to wear.

UltraCharge Limited is forging ahead with the production of safer lithium ion batteries capable of being recharged significantly faster than current conventional lithium ion batteries.
In the last three months, UltraCharge has established a laboratory facility in Israel capable of conducting nanotube synthesis and the fabrication of the nanotube anodes.
The Company has also successfully transferred the patented technology from the Nanyang Technology University in Singapore (NTU) to this new facility. The process results of the batches that were achieved in Israel, using the patented technology, have been extremely positive.

Belfast-based MOF Technologies Ltd. has received significant investment from London-based Excelsa Ventures and Queen’s University’s research commercialization arm, QUBIS. The investment will allow for scaling of the new production line capacity and a quadrupling of their research laboratory space and staff. The company is developing Metal Organic Framework (MOF) applications.

Czech company HE3DA has launched a new 3D nanotech-enabled battery production line. The production facility was financed by a Chinese investor with an initial investment of almost 1.5 billion koruna (US$62 million) that is forecast to double. In combination with an internal cooling system, the batteries, which are being tested now, should be safe from overheating or exploding, a major concern with existing technologies. The company’s 3D technology and Li-battery production processes are based on three dimensional electrodes using lithium nano-materials (patented HE3DA® technology).

Evonik Industries has invested through its venture capital arm in Nanotech Industrial Solutions, Inc. (NIS) headquartered in Avenel (NJ, USA) and now holds a minority share in the company. The parties have agreed not to disclose the volume of the transaction. NIS plans to use the proceeds for further growth of the company. Evonik received a seat on the Board of Directors of NIS. The company, which was founded in 2012, has commercialized a unique particle technology for the lubricants industry and believes to be an emerging leader in high-performance lubricant additives.

California based display technology company DigiLens has announced the closing of a $22 million Series B investment round. The company makes diffractive optical waveguide technology and nanomaterials for augmented and virtual reality glasses. The new funding round will help the company to build new augmented reality displays and sensors for enterprise, consumer and transportation applications.
