The R&D 100 Awards recognizes most significant technology inventions, special market disruptor products and excellence in green technology.

Australia-based Imagine Intelligent Materials (http://imgne.com) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with TenCate Geosynthetics to develop and demonstrate their modified imgne® X3 coating for Tencate’s specific range of polypropylene non-woven geotextiles. Imagine IM plans to offer a leak-protection solution for Tencate’s products. The company has also signed a MOU with Duromer to develop graphene-based anti-static polymers.

Forge Nano, formerly PneumatiCoat Technologies, a Colorado-based startup that has innovated a breakthrough technology to enable precision nano coatings at scale for manufacturing of products such as Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) battery materials, has closed a Series A investment of $20 million to expand its manufacturing capacity and fuel rapid growth. To meet customer demand, Forge Nano will immediately use its financing to relocate to a new 12,000 sq. ft. facility in Louisville, Colorado and increase manufacturing capacity from the current 30-ton per-year pilot plant to a 300-ton per-year light commercial production plant. In 2017, Forge Nano is set to start on a 3,000-ton per-year heavy commercial production plant capable of meeting demand volumes and price points for large-scale integration into the Li-ion market. Development will also be accelerated in other markets including catalysts, fuel cells, and many more advanced materials opportunities.

AppliedLightPath Technologies Inc.  has won a $200,000 award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for its Small Business Innovation Research project. The project “Carbide bonded graphene coating for enhanced glass molding.” will seek to enhance the molding for both visible and infrared glasses when used for mold release.

Applied Graphene Materials has signed a joint development agreement with James Briggs to develop graphene-based anti-corrosive coatings.

Talga Resources Ltd. has announced the successful testing of an anti-corrosion graphene steel coating. Results from the peer reviewed tests demonstrated dramatic improvements in corrosion resistance from the addition of just 0.1% of Talga graphene.

PEN Inc. has been included in Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500™, a ranking of the 500 fastest growing technology, media, telecommunications, life sciences and energy tech companies in North America. Through PEN’s wholly-owned subsidiary Nanofilm Ltd., the Company develops nanocoating products.

Industrial Nanotech, Inc. will be launching a new product in January of 2017 which, when applied to solar panels in the field or in the factory, increases the energy generation performance by over 12% and makes the panels extremely abrasion resistant, an important benefit in the sandy desert areas where solar panels are often used.
